Pacari and Biovène Barcelona support World Scleroderma Day with Nozama
Every year on the 29th of June, World Scleroderma Day is celebrated to raise awareness for this rare, chronic, autoimmune rheumatic disease that affects the body by hardening connective tissue.
This year with Covoid-19, it’s even more essential that we all protect ourselves to protect others, like those with reduced immunity such as people living with Scleroderma.
Natalia, diagnosed with several diseases in 2017, two of which were Scleroderma and Raynaud's syndrome collaborates with Nozama and shares our vision of sustainability and responsible consumption. Not only does she help other people with the same rare disease that she has by sharing her experiences in her blog unamadrerara, but cares too about the world around her and in working towards a more eco-conscious future.
What exactly is Scleroderma?
Scleroderma is a group of rare diseases that involve the hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. It comes from two Greek words “sclero” meaning hard and “derma” meaning skin. Some types affect only the skin, however, it can also harm internal organs and the digestive tract. It affects more women than men and mostly occurs between the ages of 30 and 50.
Caused by the overproduction and accumulation of collagen in body tissues, doctors believe this abnormal production of collagen to be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, immune system problems and environmental triggers.
Symptoms of the disease vary from person to person, however, the most common signs of the condition include; tightening of the skin, skin patches that look shiny and smooth, cold fingers and toes, gastrointestinal issues, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, swollen hands and difficulty swallowing.
While there is no cure yet, there are treatments that ease symptoms and help to improve a person’s quality of life. As symptoms of the condition can be similar to other autoimmune diseases, it can often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, so drawing awareness to the condition is really important to improve its diagnosis.
Biovène Barcelona has kindly provided a basket of solid, vegan shampoo and conditioner bars to Natalia, for one lucky winner to raise awareness for Scleroderma on World Scleroderma Day. Dermatologically tested, pH-balanced, free from sulfates, parabens and palm oil, Biovène’s solid shampoo bars are perfect for anyone who is health-conscious and a lover of natural beauty products.
They are also ideal for anyone with Scleroderma, like Natalia, as they are free from common irritants and suitable for sensitive skin. One bar can last as long as a bottle and a half of liquid shampoo.
Another thing is that most shampoos have two things in common, that they contain water and are shipped in plastic bottles, but Biovène shampoos and conditioners come in 100% biodegradable packaging, free from plastic and are 100% waterless, so for every shampoo bar used, you save 400 ml of water. Want to take part in the competition? You still have time before 30th June. Just follow Una Madre Rara on Instagram and be in with a chance.
Pacari, premium, award-winning, organic chocolate all the way from Ecuador also supports World Scleroderma Day and will be giving away five free catas over the coming days, so if you wish to enter a draw for a premium chocolate tasting and avail of a delicious bag of chocolate treats, head over to Natalia’s instagram and keep an eye out for the offer.
Pacari are not any ordinary chocolate company, unlike many, they are environmentally conscious, they support local cacao farmers in Ecuador and their underlying fundamental principle is to take care of nature and the planet, “Pacari” meaning “nature” in Quechua.
Pacari is even among Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama’s favourite chocolates, which is no surprise as it encompasses over 35 unique flavours from lemongrass, to rose and passionfruit. It’s also suitable for everyone, from vegetarians to vegans, and is kosher, lactose and gluten-free.
We thank our partners Biovène Barcelona and Pacari for their solidarity and support for World Scleroderma Day and for supporting Natalia. We are happy to be delivering the Biovène hamper and Pacari catas to the winners in Barcelona and to be working with companies like these who care about the environment, sustainability and supporting people who make a difference.
We also thank Natalia for all her work, her strength, courage and sense of humour that she expresses through her blog and social media, and for her drive to make a difference in the world and to the lives of those around her. We invite you to check out her blog at unamadrerara.es.
